I saw this infographic with porn statistics on Huffington Post. The title for the infographic is “Everyone You Know is Watching Porn”. That sounds like an excuse an elementary school child would use, “but everyone does it!” And the good parent says, “That doesn’t make it right.”

In our current culture, right and wrong are always relative. Religion and moral standards have been trashed as being “old-fashioned” and naïve. Instead we value individual feelings, and freedom of expression. Oh, but we only value what everyone else is doing and saying. There’s very little independent thinking going on.

Who Needs to Grow Up?

The concluding title of the HP infographic reads, “Because we’re BEINGS not ROBOTS, Grow the F!*# Up, It’s Human Nature”. Interestingly enough, this infographic is an advertisement for a new porn site. The graphics make fun of porn by depicting it as a zombie porn apocalypse, while all the stats reinforce the mantra, “everybody’s doing it”.

Advertisers are so clever in the way they deceptively manipulate truth. I can’t think of anything more robotic than following the crowd. Oh, except being addicted to porn is like being a robot controlled by the porn industry.

Fantasizing about sex with the hottest girl or guy on your radar is an adolescent preoccupation. Growing up, on the other hand, is a process of disciplining the mind and body to unite based on higher aspirations. At least, I hope a human beings’ highest potential is not having solo sex.

The Truth About Human Nature

Sadly, crowd mentality is all the rage. And, it always has been because immature people have trouble seeing the bigger reality, not to mention consequences. Advertisers know this, and use it to their advantage.

The real nature of human beings is learning, growth and development, which is a process that can only happen through relationship. We are born dependent on relationships for survival both physically and emotionally. Hopefully we die surrounded by our loved ones instead of six tons of porn.

Learn About Love Not Porn

You can learn all sorts of things in life, some useful and some not so much. What’s more important is,’ why are you learning?’ That question is pretty much connected to, ‘why am I here?’ Am I getting too deep for you?

The advertisers hope you will believe that your purpose is to satisfy every whim and wish you could possibly imagine. To help you fulfill this purpose they will feed you multidimensional media that stimulates desires you didn’t even know you had. In this lovely reciprocal relationship they too get to fulfill their own need – raking in the never-ending financial profit at your expense.

But wait, THERE IS HOPE! You are a human being with free will. You can break away from the clutches of media brainwashing. It may be a little scary at first, to step outside the crowd, but you can do it!  Your real potential is to think for yourself and learn to love. That’s where you will experience true freedom.
